Breakaway Basketball with Greg Ktistou

The Knights Travel Basketball Program is pleased to announce that our commitment to skills development continues for the upcoming year with our strategic partnership between Knights Basketball and Breakaway Basketball. The development of core basketball skills serves as the foundation for success and Greg Ktistou, founder of Breakaway Basketball, will be personally leading the program wide skills training sessions each week during the season.

Greg Ktistou is the owner and head trainer for Breakaway Basketball. Greg graduated from Downers Grove South High School in 1997 where he was named one of the top 20 players in the state of Illinois by the Chicago Sun Times and received a division one basketball scholarship to Eastern Illinois University. Greg played two years at EIU then transferred to Carthage College. At Carthage College Greg was named all conference his senior year and was the CCIW Defensive Player of the Year. Carthage was ranked #1 in the country both years Greg attended.

Upon graduating from Carthage College, Greg participated in the NBA Summer League before playing professionally in Greece and Germany the past 10 years. In 2012 Greg was named the European Player of the year for Hagen BG.

In addition to his playing credentials, Greg has over 15 years of coaching experience. Among his credits are Head Varsity Coach at Downers Grove North High School, Varsity Assistant at Downers Grove South High School and Head Sophomore Coach at Hinsdale South High School. Greg was also Head Coach of the Illinois Kings AAU program from 2002-2009, which won three state championships and finished the 2009 17U AAU basketball season ranked 13th in the country.

Greg is the Founder, Owner and Lead Trainer of Breakaway Basketball (www.breakawaybasketball.com) a high level basketball training operation that has trained over 6000 athletes and 50 area high school, feeder club and semi-professional teams in the last three years. In addition to Breakaway Basketball, Greg has founded Breakaway Coaches Academy to groom and teach young coaches how to excel at instructing and motivating basketball athletes.

While his exploits as a player and a coach set him above his peers, Greg’s truly unique skill set is his ability to challenge and motivate athletes to breakaway from their self imposed limitations and achieve personal success through dedication, hard work and athletic accomplishment.
